Course overview
Suitable audience:
In house employment lawyers, HR Managers and HR Admin Staff
Overview:
• We’ll take a look at some of the trickier aspects of employment law in this session including:
• Sickness absence and the methods for dealing with persistent short-term absences, and long-term sickness absence;
• Flexible working, accommodating requests, reasonable adjustments for disabled employees and requests made by employees returning from maternity or shared parental leave;
• An update on all aspects of discrimination law and a consideration of the practical impact of recent case law decisions with particular emphasis on the areas of religion in the workplace, reasonable adjustments, gender equality and discrimination arising from disability.

Presenter profiles:
Rhian Brace, Geldards – Rhian is Partner in the employment team at Geldards and for over 20 years has been helping businesses find pragmatic and common sense solutions to their HR and employment issues. Rhian advises public sector clients on strategic employment and HR issues and has built up a reputation and considerable experience as a result of her advocacy work. Rhian is considered to be pragmatic and to the point, finding sensible and commercial solutions in difficult employment scenarios particularly where the case is high profile and likely to attract considerable media attention.
Sarah Hooton – Browne Jacobson – Sarah is a highly experienced Associate working in the employment team at Browne Jacobson. She has for a number of years been involved in numerous complex, high value and high profile employment issues. Sarah works for a wide variety of public sector organisations including fire services, local authorities, central government and health sector clients. She has a particular expertise and experience in dealing with complex tribunal claims and transactions involving TUPE, including advising on amendments to national framework agreement terms and in respect of alternative service delivery vehicles. Sarah is also involved in providing and designing innovative training for clients.
