• GDPR/Brexit – the latest developments and what it means for local authorities;
• Data Protection risk management – the latest penalties and how you avoid them;
• Freedom of Information – the tricky issues and how to manage them, including vexatious requests; and
• Case Law – the latest tribunal decisions
Interactive elements
We will incorporate some quizzes with voting technology on various aspects.

Presenter profiles:
Simon Goacher joined Weightmans in February 2013 to head up the Local Government team.
Formerly Head of Legal and Democratic Services at Cheshire West and Cheshire Council, Simon has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in local government law spanning almost two decades.
He has led on significant projects including an innovative housing stock transfer at Wirral Council and on the promotion of a private Act of Parliament. He was awarded the title of Local Government Young Solicitor of the year in 2006. As Head of Legal Services and Monitoring Officer at Wirral Council, Simon was the lead legal adviser for key projects including regeneration schemes in New Brighton and Birkenhead.
In 2009, he was appointed Head of Legal Services and Monitoring Officer of the newly created Cheshire West and Chester Council. This involved the creation of a single authority from four councils.
Simon has been a member of the projects boards for a number of major projects including the creation of Council-owned companies, as well as significant outsourcing and regeneration projects.
Since joining Weightmans Simon has advised a number of local authorities on powers and governance on high profile matters. He has also provided training to council officers and members on governance and ethical standards and carried out a number of complex and sensitive investigations.
Simon also advises local authorities and public bodies on all aspects of information law.
Morris Hill is an associate in the Local Government team at Weightmans. Before joining Weightmans in 2007 he worked for 10 years in local authority in-house legal teams. Morris specialises in education and social care, including child and vulnerable adult protection, best interest determinations, ordinary residence disputes, general community care obligations, commissioning and contractual arrangements, charging, mental health, information sharing, school organisation, exclusions and admissions, SEN provision, school transport and general strategic advice.

Morris also has an interest in all aspects of public and Human Rights law. He also advises local authorities on information law and provides regular training to lawyers and other local authority officers.
Gareth Oldale is Head of Technology and Data at Sharpe Pritchard. He works with clients on major projects predominantly in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors and spends much of his time advising on IT and business process outsourcing projects and on all aspects of procurement in the public and private sectors. He is regularly instructed by a broad range of public sector clients to advise on information law, data protection and privacy issues, cloud computing, internet law, broadband, wi-fi and networking, IP and software licensing, hosting and data centre issues, freedom of information and state aid matters.
