The morning session will incorporate a series of talks and interactive sessions covering the landlord and tenant case law of the previous year, and the hot topics within landlord and tenant such as new legislation, practices and procedures.

Presenter profiles:
Zo Hoida, Weightmans has over 15 years’ experience in Real Estate and has worked on a full range of property matters including acquisitions and disposals, development, landlord and tenant, secured lending and social housing. Her specialism is development work within both the public and private sectors, including acting on complex mixed use developments for clients from both backgrounds. Zo has recently acted on several major high profile regeneration projects for local and central government.
Catherine Bowen, Weightmans has over 15 years’ experience in Real Estate, particularly in the retail sector, working with high profile national retail clients, dealing with large scale acquisitions and disposals, landlord and tenant matters, secured lending and development. Catherine has handled large scale property portfolios for major retailers and is currently acting for a number of local authority clients including freehold and leasehold matters. Catherine also has teaching experience having fitted in teaching land law at the University of Leicester for eight years whilst also working in private practice.
Matthew Lake, Weightmans has over 10 years experience specialising in property litigation acting for a diverse range of clients, including well known retail and service industry businesses, in all manner of commercial property disputes including lease renewal proceedings (both opposed and unopposed), dilapidations claims including use of the PLA Dilapidations Protocol, the impact of s.18 Landlord and Tenant Act 1927 and the effect of sub-tenants, rent/service charge disputes, advising on the effects of conditions attached to break options, serving break notices and advising landlords where a break notice may not be effective, advising on methods of obtaining vacant possession of sites and removal of equipment by telecommunications providers and advising on any discreet issues which arise during the term of a lease e.g. boundary disputes and encroachment.
David Watson, Geldards has significant experience of a very broad range of commercial real estate work, and leads the real estate team at Geldards’ Nottingham office. He heads the retail property group, whose clients include Walgreens Boots Alliance (formerly Alliance Boots), Office Depot group of companies, Pendragon and Tesco. David was responsible for establishing adedicated multi-disciplinary team to handle lease renewal transactions within the Alliance Boots portfolio, an innovation which resulted in significant efficiency improvements in the renewal process and swifter achievement of rent reductions in a falling market.
In the public sector, David and his team are currently advising Leicester City Council in relation to the first phase of the Waterside regeneration scheme, a project of very significant local and regional importance which anticipates the rejuvenation of some 60 acres of former industrial land adjacent to the city centre, with the Council bringing forward a residential scheme with retail, commercial and leisure components. He is also currently acting for Nottinghamshire County Council in relation to other local projects.
Mark Hacking, Geldards is a dispute resolution lawyer who specialises in property disputes and management work. He enjoys guiding clients through the complex and technical world of litigation with his own individual blend of commercial acumen and humour. He is seen by his colleagues and contacts as the man for difficult cases. He is also an experienced and successful mediator.
