Course overview
Suitable audience:
Anyone who is interested, including non-lawyers.
Overview:
The workshop will teach you how to create value and claim your fair share of the pie and
more. The workshop is a blend of skills and theory with “hands on” simulation exercises.
You will learn that strength in negotiation is founded on personal empowerment and the
confidence to trust in your own ethical values.
Topics to be covered include:
• Myths and realities of negotiation
• Distributive bargaining: The sale of the barrel of lightning bolts
• Case study: Hole and Plug II. The sale and purchase of an unusual and rare
postmodernist sculpture
• BATNA – the source of your power
• Negotiating under uncertainty. How to create enforceable contingency contracts
• Case study: The Golden Spoon or the strange case of the alcoholic chef and the
missing silver cutlery
Interactive elements
The entire course will be in a workshop format and will be interactive.
Duration: Half a day (3 training hours) including lunch

Presenter profiles:
David Griffiths is a consultant with Geldards, a qualified mediator and business executive coach. He has over 30 years’ experience in dispute resolution of every variety. For 20 years he was the leading contributor to Atkin’s Court Forms on Companies Winding Up. He is active in practice both as an executive coach, commercial mediator and solicitor. He is also a qualified Myers Briggs Type Indicator practitioner.
