Overview:
It is anticipated that this course will provide a clear analysis of the further changes planned by the government and what steps it will have taken to bring these into effect. In doing so, we would expect to cover some or all of the topics mentioned below.
Topics to be covered include:
• Planning and Housing White Papers and resultant measures
• The ongoing effect of the Housing and Planning Act 2016
• Progress on the Neighbourhood and Planning Bill
• Government proposals on revising the National Planning Policy Framework
• Further changes to permitted development rights
• Brexit-impact on planning and environmental law one year on
Interactive elements
Workshops on key/problem areas. We will divide delegates into small groups and feedback to the plenary session

Presenter profiles:
Brian Hurwitz is a partner at Sharpe Pritchard and heads the planning law team. He has many years’ experience, both in the public sector and in private practice. He has advised local authorities on plan-making and development management and has negotiated and prepared section 106 agreements on developments involving important strategic and/or regional sites. He has frequently spoken at seminars and client training events and has written articles in the Journal of Planning and Environmental Law and Planning magazine and in Westlaw Insight and for the EM Lawshare Newsletter. Brian continues to be ranked in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500. Sharpe Pritchard is ranked highly in the Planning Magazine list of top ranked planning lawyers and Brian is also ranked in the magazine’s list of individual solicitors.
Denise Stephenson is a partner at Sharpe Pritchard based in the planning team. She has extensive experience of major regeneration projects and has negotiated many section 106 agreements and highway agreements. This includes a large number of redevelopment and regeneration projects and infrastructure projects, mixed use developments and sport and leisure facilities. She has been credited as being “exceptionally hardworking” in Legal 500. Denise speaks regularly at seminars and training events on matters on planning and highways.
