Overview:
The training session will explore common planning law issues encountered by local planning authorities when determining applications for major residential developments and urban extension projects.
We are encouraging speakers to include interactive elements into their courses.
Topics to be covered include:
• Major residential schemes
• Section 106 obligations
Interactive elements
The session will include a section 106 agreement workshop, looking at common challenges and pitfalls on schemes of this nature such as viability/ deliverability, Council owned land, phased developments, CIL compliance and affordable housing.
Duration: Half a day (3 training hours) including lunch

Presenter profiles:
Charles Felgate, Geldards is recognised as a leader in the field of planning and environmental law. His practice covers all aspects of planning law, including contentious and non contentious work. He acts for numerous local authorities, as well as a number of national park authorities, routinely advising on planning and enforcement matters and strategic planning issues.
Charles is originally from New Zealand, where he qualified as a barrister and solicitor in 1998. In the UK Charles initially worked for several local authorities in a locum capacity, before joining Geldards in 2003 and transferring his qualifications to the UK, specialising in planning and environmental law.
Charles regularly participates in planning appeals and called in planning applications. He has significant expertise in compulsory purchase and compensation claims, planning obligations, highways adoption agreements, stopping up orders, and other infrastructure agreements. He also regularly advises on contaminated land issues.
Lee Gordon heads Weightmans’ Planning team and has considerable experience of all aspects of planning and related law. In addition to local authority clients, Lee represents private sector developers and statutory consultees and consequently has an excellent insight into the issues faced by all parties for development projects. He regularly advises on complex planning agreements and applications, ancillary highways consents and rights of way, CPO and appropriation, EIA law issues, defending permissions from judicial review challenges and planning appeals. Lee has significant knowledge and experience of residential development schemes. Lee’s experience also includes advising on variousnationally significant infrastructure projects and CPO issues.
