Overview:
This course will cover important planning and housing topics. It will focus on current practice and changes and any recent legislation, guidance and case law. There will be opportunities for participation and sharing of experiences and practices amongst the local authorities. It will also include a practical session on enforcement.

We will include a workshop on enforcement and/or other hot topic. We would also suggest a discussion forum on problem solving.

Presenter profiles
Brian Hurwitz is a partner at Sharpe Pritchard and heads the planning law team. He has many years’ experience, both in the public sector and in private practice. He has advised local authorities on plan-making and development management and has negotiated and prepared section 106 agreements on developments involving important strategic and/or regional sites. He has frequently spoken at Courses and client training events and has written articles in the Journal of Planning and Environmental Law and Planning magazine and in Westlaw Insight . Brian is described in Chambers & Partners 2015 edition as a “very good lawyer,” who “protects his clients’ interests very well and it’s always done with good humour”.
Denise Stephenson is a partner at Sharpe Pritchard based in the planning team. She has extensive experience of major regeneration projects and has negotiated many section 106 agreements and highway agreements. This includes a large number of redevelopment projects, wind farms and infrastructure projects, mixed use developments and sport and leisure facilities. She is credited as being “exceptionally hardworking” in Legal 500, 2015.
Kathryn Lawrance is head of the planning team at Bevan Brittan. She advises on all the issues involved in bringing sites forward for regeneration and sustainable development including negotiating planning agreements, highways and compulsory purchase advice, planning appeals, listed building and conservation area applications, contaminated land and the defence of town green applications. Kathryn is described in Chambers & Partners 2015 edition as “excellent – … very responsive and provides a really good service. She’ll take a 50-page document and boil it down into the key issues”
Andrew Shaw is a partner in Bevan Brittan’s property team, specialising in social housing. He has 15 years’ experience of assisting local authorities and housing associations on all aspects of land acquisition, development and regeneration, often involving complex Section 106, mixed tenure and nominations issues. Andrew is a regular presenter at courses and training events on housing issues, and a frequent contributor to Inside Housing and other sector journals.
