Seminar overview

This seminar is designed for local authority lawyers who prepare and present prosecutions and enforcement files. It would benefit those defending and prosecuting criminal offences for the member Authorities.

It will refresh their skills in cross examination and feature an update on developments and legal challenges particularly in respect of Health & Safety.

The interactive workshop will allow delegates to present a file of their own acting out the role of advocate. Junior Counsel will also be on hand to help hone delegate’s skills.

Speaker profiles:

Lisa Gilligan is a senior associate at Freeths Leicester office. She has extensive licensing experience having previously worked both in private practice and for a local authority. She deals with the full range of licensing applications and hearings. She has considerable advocacy experience and also represents clients at PACE interviews dealing with a broad range of licensing and regulatory issues. Lisa is also recognised by the Chambers UK Guide as a Leader in the field of Licensing.

Chris Green is the lead partner of Weightmans LLP Midlands regulatory services unit. He helps businesses and public sector organizations with health and safety consultancy; risk management advisory services; advising on documentary procedures; health and safety training for Directors on their duties and responsibilities; training of management in safety management systems; and bespoke training packages. Chris provides: advice and assistance in relation to accident investigation in the immediate aftermath of an adverse event; representation at PACE interviews; support and guidance throughout court proceedings; and a 24 hour emergency response service in critical situations where immediate assistance is required.
